Greconomics
...The
Olive Bank!
...for Grecians, money just grows out
of the ground - Thanks to the worlds love of olives and the oil they
produce.
The export of olive products has been a part of Greek trade as far
back as anyone can remember. Greece's unique locale affords it the
opportunity to produce desert goods and yet they are on the
coastline of the Mediterranean. They have the best of three worlds.
Mountain deserts, lush lowlands, and of course the beautiful beaches
of the Mediterranean. This coastline has always been the key to
Greece's wealth of trade, political influence, and most of all
culture.
Access to the splendor of Greece before
the advent of automobiles and aero planes was as easy as setting sail
and letting the winds guide you to this mecca of culture. And oh,
what a mecca indeed. Being rooted in seafaring, ocean travel, and
ship building, this fair country has amassed a plethora of blended
cultures, Persian, Arab, Israeli, Mede, French, British, Egyptian,
Italian, Hindi, Asian, just to name a few.
Over a period of thousands of years,
hundreds of differing cultures all met up in Greece and Guess
What?...they all brought lunch. Which brings us back to our point.
It did not take long before hundreds of cultures from around the
planet preferred to prepare their favorite dishes utilizing the
fabulously unique properties of olives and olive oil. From the
eateries of Brasil, to the bistros of France, to the Isles of the
South Pacific every good cook knows their had better be some Greek
extra virgin olive oil on the shelf or all is lost.
